This focus on the "latest incident" is designed to obscure what truly lies at the heart of this ongoing conflict: Israel's violent takeover of Palestine. Palestinians, expelled from their country in 1948, had continued their struggle against Israel from Lebanon. In 1982, Israel invaded that country in an attempt to destroy the Palestine Liberation Organisation, killing tens of thousands of civilians. The freedom fighters in Lebanon should realize that the sectarian militias and the sectarian fight in Iraq would weaken the struggle in Lebanon. The Iraqi National Resistance is part of the struggle against Zionism. It must be " of the "Green Zone" is in the trench of the Imperialist Zionist enemy and must be declared as the enemy of the principles of the nationalist struggle. On July 22, the New York Times revealed the full extent of the Bush Regime’s participation in the heinous war crimes being inflicted on the Lebanese people: "The Bush administration is rushing a delivery of precision-guided bombs to Israel, which requested the expedited shipment last week after beginning its air campaign. . . . The decision to quickly ship the weapons to Israel was made with relatively little debate within the Bush administration, the officials said." Obviously, Bush and his government do not think Israel has yet murdered enough Lebanese. Bush denounces Syria and Iran for allegedly arming Hezbollah, while he rushes more deadly weapons to Israel...

Translated and/or compiled by Muhammad Abu Nasr, member, editorial board, the Free Arab Voice....In a dispatch posted at 6:45pm Makkah time Sunday afternoon, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that a short while earlier US General George Casey, the commander of American occupation forces in Iraq, accompanied by the puppet "Iraqi Ministers of Defense and the Interior," arrived by military helicopter in the city of al-Fallujah, about 60km west of Baghdad. The al-Fallujah correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported a source in the puppet regional "government" office building as saying that Casey’s visit came amidst rising American casualties in the city. Iraqi puppet regime forces were also suffering an increased number of losses in dead and wounded as the Resistance escalates its pressure on the occupation troops and their allies there. Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the number of Resistance attacks and casualties inflicted on the Americans and Iraqi puppet forces in al-Fallujah has now returned to the level where it was before the Second Battle of al-Fallujah in late 2004 and early 2005, after which the Americans took control of the city...

Who’s Using Humanitarian Aid as a Political Weapon?
Stephen GowansWhen Zimbawe’s ZANU-PF government was accused of using food aid to punish political supporters of the Western-backed opposition Movement for Democratic Change, a hue and cry was raised in all quarters. Newspaper editorialists, government officials, elected representatives, NGO spokesmen and human-rights imperialists deplored the manipulation of humanitarian assistance. But when the Washington Post reported that South Korea had suspended food aid to the North to force Pyongyang back to six-party talks, the silence was deafening. There were no outraged editorials, no marches, no letter writing campaigns. The common sense view is that only Washington’s "outposts of tyranny" use food as a weapon, but never the US and never its allies. On the contrary, Western powers and their allies frequently create humanitarian crises to pressure civilian populations or their governments to behave in desired ways...

Chris FloydAs'ad AbuKhalil (the "Angry Arab") shreds the lazy trope by which Western analysts "explain" the war in the Middle East: the "Shi'ite passion for martyrdom." Here, he takes The Nation to task: Adam Shatz figured it out. It is all about Shi`ite "passion for martyrdom." So that is what it is all about. A passion for martyrdom. I was raised by a Shi`te father (and a Sunni mother): he never inculcated "a passion for martyrdom" in his children. If anything, nobody loved life and its pleasures more than my Shi`ite father. My father did not even know how to pray, and never entered a mosque in his life, but Shatz thinks that all Shi`ite are religious fanatics. But surely As'ad is too angry on this point. After all, it's a radical, nearly incomprehensible concept we're dealing with here: the notion that Arabs – or indeed, any of the strange Others looming in the deserts and jungles "out there" – could be as complex and multifaceted and, dare we say it, as individual as real human beings...

Three US Soldiers Killed in Iraq
