US Troops Covering Tracks in Samarra
Karen Button
In Samarra, where US troops have been accused of shooting two women--one pregnant--while on their way to the hospital, and trying to cover up the wrong-doing, another incident reveals a disturbing trend. According to surviving family members, US troops killed three unarmed civilians, one a mentally disabled man, in their home on the evening of 4 May and then attempted to cover their tracks. Around 5pm an IED exploded on Al-Burahman Street. Afterwards, US forces blocked the area and closed the streets. When a sniper shot at troops from a location close the Khalis family home, soldiers stormed the house. Fifteen people were crammed into one room, huddled together for safety. According to witnesses, troops broke down the door to the house when as they raided it, and began "shooting everywhere"...

Massacre on a Beach in Gaza
Mike Whitney
Israel doesn’t bother with low-intensity warfare anymore. It goes straight for the jugular. Day after day Israel has launched unprovoked attacks on Palestinian civilians only pausing long enough to assemble the requisite lies to fend off the media. It’s quite extraordinary. One day they blow up a family peacefully touring in their new car; killing 3 generations with one mighty blast, and then a few days later they fire a mortar round at a beach in Gaza wiping out 7 members of another family. The entire incident in Gaza was captured on video providing a heart-wrenching visual-account of a traumatized 12 year old girl running around while the limp and bloodied bodies of her parents are carted off to the morgue. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s response to the tragedy was astonishingly bland: "The IDF is the most moral military in the world. There has never been, and there isn’t now, a policy of attacking civilians." Olmert’s proclamations are meaningless; the IDF is neither more nor less "moral" than any other "organized killing-machine". The IDF simply reflects the prevailing ethos of the Israeli leadership; a leadership steeped in arrogance and racism. If we look at the recent American massacre in Iraq, we see that there’s a straight line between the "execution-style" killing of women and children in Haditha and the Bush administration’s promiscuous attitude towards torture and cruelty...

Ramsey Clark on worldwide U.S. militarization - The case for impeachment is clear beyond question
...The list of Bush's crimes is long. The "Shock and Awe" invasion was Bush’s war of aggression -- a crime identified as the "the Supreme international crime" by the Nuremberg Tribunal. Remember Falluja, the American Guernica, a virtual destruction of a defenseless city by superior military technology (36,000 homes, 8,400 shops destroyed in the final assault alone); Abu Ghraib, the shameful celebration of sick forms of sexual torture; Haifa Street, Baghdad, where a U.S. helicopter gun ship killed 13 unarmed people and injured 50 dancing around a burned out Bradley Armored Vehicle; Abu Shifa, a small village, where U.S. soldiers were accused of rounding up civilians, forcing them into a room, then opening fire, killing 11 people, including a 75 year-old, a 6 month-old baby, and five children under the age five; Haditha, where Marines murdered 15 defenseless civilians, and injured many more, most women and children; and tiny Guantanamo, where the U.S. has compiled human rights violations in four years that have been denounced by the entire world including the United Nations. Yet President Bush arrogantly refuses to close the Guantanamo prison, or return the land and sovereignty to Cuba while U.S. officials fret over three prisoners who committed suicide in one day to "embarrass the U.S."
The grand total of civilian deaths in Iraq is probably more than 250,000, and rapidly growing...

Disaster and Catastrophe
Albayaty Abdul Ilah, member Advisory Committee BRussells Tribunal
The U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq is a military, economic, moral and cultural disaster for Iraqis, Americans, and the world. The Bush adminstration is continuing on its destructive course, changing tactics but not strategy. U.S. military failure has been demonstrated by the inability of the most well-funded, sophisticated armed force in the world to defeat the resistance of a small country and its poor people. Technology can level entire neighborhoods, but it cannot break the human dignity of the Iraqi people...

Witnessing the Destruction of Gaza
Remi Kanazi
...Where is the world community’s condemnation of Israel’s military actions? Where are the words of reprobation from the European Union—the champion of democracy? I know the death of Palestinians is not as interesting as the World Cup — but this is getting a bit ridiculous. The West has sided against the Palestinian people — hoping the move will cause the collapse of the Hamas-led Palestinian Authority. Should the death of innocent Palestinians be considered the necessary collateral damage for the fall of Hamas? If so, how many Palestinians will suffice? In the last five years, Israeli forces killed four women and children a week on average, with barely a peep coming from the international community. If an increase in internal strife is necessary for this collapse, who is to lead the Palestinian people after the fall? How can one expect Palestinian Authority President Abu Mazen to come to the aid of Palestinians?...

Ann Coulter, Dixie Chicks & Net Neutrality:
Bad Vibes and Weird Values in the Loony Month of June

Gary Corseri
Chalk up another lousy week for the First Amendment, rational and civil discourse in the Land of the Free, the Home of the Absurd. First, Ann Coulter, the "harpy" and "witch" (her words!) we love to hate, sparred with host Matt Lauer on the "Today" show while promoting her new diatribe, "Godless: The Church of Liberalism." In her latest version of "Mein Kampf," Coulter attacks four 9/11 widows who have dared to criticize US government failures (bipartisan failures, one should note!) that might have augmented the attacks. "These broads are millionaires," opines A.C., "lionized on TV … reveling in their status as celebrities … These self-obsessed women seem genuinely unaware that 9/11 was an attack on our nation and acted as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them." Of course, labeling a grieving widow "a broad" hardly augers well for the rest of her argument, and could be adduced in a "Logic.101" class as a sterling example of "poisoning the well" ...

Five Years of War on Terra
Anwaar Hussain
Come September this year, it will be full five years of President George Bush's War on Terra (Texanese for 'terror’…I won’t be reminding you again). As the duration of War on Terra has now almost matched that of the 2nd World War, let us see how the man from Texas has done in his War on Terra in the last five years. Let us turn to a survey done by one hundred leading American foreign policy analysts. Released by the Foreign Affairs Journal on June the 14th, the report is titled as "Terrorism Index"...

New “al-Qaeda in Iraq” Boogieman: Abu al-Masri
Kurt Nimmo
No sooner did the corporate media parade gruesome photos of the freshly killed Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, or the person we are expected to believe was al-Zarqawi, then it set about arranging his successor, as evil Muslim boogiemen must remain front and center in the forever war against manufactured terrorism. "An Egyptian associate of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi claims to have succeeded him as the new leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, even though an Islamic Web site said Monday that another man was in power," reports the Bush Ministry of Scary Campfire Stories, Fox News division. "Brig. Gen. Carter Ham said at a Pentagon news conference on Wednesday that Abu al-Masri, whose name surfaced shortly after reports of Zarqawi’s death became widespread as a successor, had claimed to be in charge of Al Qaeda in Iraq." In short, the covert op pseudo-gang "al-Qaeda in Iraq" needs a new face, as the demonization of the resistance must continue...

Zarqawi's double face
Firas Al-Atraqchi
...Given how Zarqawi fuelled sectarianism and plunged Iraq into wide-scale chaos, it is not surprising that many Iraqis -- and Arabs -- believed the Jordanian terrorist to have been an instrument of foreign occupation. Many believe that he enjoyed a utilitarian relationship with the US military: he referred to them as the infidels, with all who worked with them targeted for killing, while the Bush administration referred to him as proof of Al-Qaeda's dominance in Iraq and thus justification for a prolonged and bloody occupation. The noted Iraqi blogger, Riverbend, says: "His influence was greatly exaggerated but he was the justification for every single family they killed through military strikes and troops" ...

Iraq 'Hadji Girl' soldier apologizes
Truth About Iraqis
...See, here is the problem I have with this. 1) The cheering and nearly fanatical joy expressed by the audience. 2) The premise that the soldier "did not know" it would offend people or that some may find it racist. This is exactly the same ploy as those who say they did not know that taking pictures atop dead Iraqis (or sitting atop a twisted human pyramid of Iraqis who are clearly grimacing in pain) was wrong. We have heard defense campaigns that say the dog handler in Abu Ghraib did not know that having a dog menacing to tear apart a detainee's face was wrong. Say what? where did they learn of morality and ethics? Playing Battlefield 2 apparently. Did they not view the Iraqis as humans? Ahh ... once again untermenschen. That word - untermenschen - will NOT go away...

Lawyer says Aziz under extreme pressure
UPI
The lawyer of former Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz said his client has been pressured to reveal links between the ousted regime and European officials. Iraqi lawyer Badih Aref said in remarks published Thursday in Amman's daily al-Arab al-Yom that Aziz is undergoing tremendous pressure to testify against Saddam Hussein and to explain the suspected relationship between the deposed Baath regime, British politician George Galloway, an unnamed Jordanian official and French officials, including President Jacques Chirac...

Father's Day: The Dangerous Notions of Michael Berg
Chris Floyd
...…Zarqawi – or "Zarqawi" – was the fake emblem of a fake war, the "war on terror" that the Bush Regime is pretending to fight while it goes about its long-planned business of exploiting "opportunities" like 9/11. Nicholas Berg was no emblem; he was just another human being literally ripped to shreds in that dark maw where high politics and low murder feast on the same lies, the same flesh. But despite the central role that Berg unwillingly played in the concoction of the Zarqawi legend, he was largely airbrushed from the lurid coverage of its grand finale. That's because any new story on Berg would naturally center around his most outspoken survivor, his father Michael. And Michael Berg is a man with a dangerous message, a radical subversion of every value that the Bush Administration is fighting to preserve...

Press Release
Defense Committee for President Saddam Hussein, His comrades and all detainees

Since the first moment of assuming their mission of defending justice, no one member of the Defense Committee has ever met unilaterally, neither in secrecy nor in public, with President Saddam Hussein except the President of the Defense Committee. All the news and media reports about unilateral meetings with the lawyers are unfounded. We confirm that there were no meetings whatsoever between President Saddam and any American official except one meeting with an American military general who advised the President to chose between either being a new Mussolini and Napoleon. President Saddam refused to reveal any other detail of that meeting...

Honest Abe and the Residents of Ramadi
Look Them in the Eye

KATHY KELLY
On Day 6 of a 30 day "Walk for Justice," our team of fourteen walkers rested after covering 10 miles of a planned 320 mile walk across central Illinois. While most of us sank into overstuffed chairs and couches to examine our blisters, Milan Rai, a UK activist and author, went on line to study the news. "Better look at this," he said. "The LA Times reports that Iraqis in Ramadi are desperate to flee impending attacks and some are seeking shelter in Fallujah. They've been without water and electricity for days. Panicked by fears of an imminent attack by U.S. troops massed around the city, many of the 400,000 residents of Ramadi have poured out of the city hoping to escape the mounting crisis. At checkpoints leading to Baghdad, hundreds of families were turned away. What do they face if they remain in Ramadi? If the 2004 Battle of Fallujah is a precursor for an attack against Ramadi, the U.S. military may cordon off an escape route for women and children, but forbid the men and older boys to leave...

GI Special 4F13: Troops Support Combat Refuser - June 15, 2006
Thomas F. Barton
Deployment Refuser Receives Support From Troops "Thanking Him For Speaking Up"
First Lt. Ehren Watada doesn’t regret publicly announcing that he will not deploy to Iraq because he believes the war is illegal and immoral.
"I know there are a lot of people, especially in the military, who hate me, who think I’m a traitor, think I’m a coward, think I should spend the rest of my life at Leavenworth and I should be taken out on the street the shot," Watada told Army Times. But "there are a lot of people in the military who are supporting me."
On June 7, the day first went public about refusing to deploy to Iraq, Watada said three noncommissioned officers walked up to him and shook his hand. He said he has received e-mails from NCOs and field grade officers thanking him for speaking up.

Mass death on the installment plan
Bellaciao
Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH), who has led opposition within the Congress to the war from the beginning, issued the following statement on the war Supplemental funding bill on the House floor Monday evening: "Mass death on the installment plan. That’s what this supplemental vote to keep our troops in Iraq is all about. "Today Iraqi civilian casualties number well over 100,000. Iraqi civilian injuries could be over one million, but who is keeping track? Some act as though the Iraqis are not real people, with real families, real hopes and real dreams and loves of their own...

Olbermann Disses Mearsheimer and Walt Critique
Kurt Nimmo
On the War Without End forum, Keith Olbermann, darling of the corporate media, dismisses the John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt paper on the Israel Lobby as mere "trivia" and "falsely predicated," whatever that means. Olbermann’s brief comments are in response to a long email sent by James Morris, who posted Olbermann’s response on the forum. Olbermann’s response is indicative—the corporate media has all but ignored the study and some have gone so far as call the two esteemed academics raving antisemites...
