The head of the Libyan opposition council says the rebels reject any cease-fire proposal that does not include the departure of Moammar Gadhafi and his sons from the country.
The comments by Mustafa Abdel Jalil, head of the Libyan Opposition National Council, came today in response to peace efforts from an African Union delegation that earlier met with Gadhafi in Tripoli.
Gadhafi told the delegation that he would accept the cease-fire proposal as part of a five-point peace plan.
But Jalil, speaking to reporters in Benghazi after meeting with the delegation, says Gadhafi must leave the country.
The demands of the people are for Gadhafi and his family to depart.
"Any initiative which does not include this key popular demand will not be regarded," Jalil says. "Moammar Gadhafi and his sons should depart immediately."
